On a whim my wife and I stopped at the Lehigh Valley mall to walk around the
other day. We went around noon and decided we were hungry so we looked for some food. Instead of the same old fired or fast food we found “The Pita Pit”. We stopped in and found a pretty diverse menu including some vegetarian entrees.
The Pita Pit explains that they were “founded on the idea that people want an exciting alternative to fast food restaurants—a place with great tasting food that’s healthy, fresh, and still served fast.”
For those of you that aren’t sure what a Pita is, it’s a round pocket bread widely consumed in many Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Balkan cuisines. The “pocket” in pita bread is created by steam, which puffs up the dough. As the bread cools and flattens, a pocket is left in the middle. The Pita Pit lets you chose between white or wheat pitas. The pocket is then filled with whatever the eater wants. The Pita Pit has choices that include chicken, beef, veggies, falafel and many others.
My wife chose the falafel and added lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, peppers, avocado and a tzatziki sauce. They warm the falafel to order which takes away any time of heat lamp action that could be obtained in some fast food places. She really enjoyed the whole pita, the Pita itself was fresh tasting and falafel wasn’t dry like it can very easily be. The tzatziki sauce was light with a good dill flavor.
I went the chicken ceaser Pita. I also chose a wheat pita and stuffed it with the
chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and ceaser dressing. I chose to add avocado to my pita also, because really, everything is better with avocado. I thought my pita was delicious. To say I was a bit skeptical at first would be an understatement, after all a Pita place in a mall doesn’t really sound like the top of the line. I found my pita to be full of flavor and fresh. The warmed chicken and bacon was really juicy and flavorful.
Even though they were a little messy to eat, they were really fun. It was defiantly a nice change to the normal mall food. Highly recommended for a quick and healthy meal.
