Off the beaten path sits a hidden jewel of a tavern called the “Raven’s Nest”. I speculate that a lot more people know about this place then it lends to be known, at least judging by the hundreds of pictures of patrons and music acts on the wall. Tucked away in the woods of Haycock Township off of Old Bethlehem Road, this 1700’s stagecoach stop, Inn, and even part of the underground railroad boasts a small, but comfortable bar, pool table and an offset room with tables, a big stone fireplace, and stage.
The stage offers a venue to open mic nights on Wednesdays, and various artists throughout the end of the week and Saturdays. I suggest calling for details. Most of the music played there is of Blues genre. In fact, Raven’s Nest has hosted some really big names in Blues, names such as Mike Dugan and the Blues Mission and even Craig Thatcher Band. Best part is… No cover.
Raven’s Nest offers a simple pub style menu and you can observe from anywhere at the bar your meal being prepared. Multi-talented bartenders are not only mixing your cocktails, but also cooking up some excellent cheesesteaks right before your eyes! They have some interesting tidbits on the menu you don’t often see like wing dings, pizza rolls, and
even just some chips and pretzels with picante sauce.
On this occasion, we heard that the “Honey Dipped Chicken” was a signature favorite ordered quite often by the locals. So obviously an order of that along with, also a local favorite, cheesesteak (fully loaded with banana peppers, mushrooms, onions, and extra cheese) with curly fries was the final decision. The chicken was perfectly fried, crispy
coating with a hint of sweet honey in the taste, chicken was moist, perfect. A lot of places claim to have the “best” cheesesteaks, the Raven’s Nest humbly says they’re “pretty good”… No, our cheesesteak was “pretty amazing”. I’d say they’re right up there with some off the best real South Philly cheesesteaks that I’ve had. That includes Tony Luke’s, Jim’s, Geno’s and Pat’s…
So, if you decide to make the trip out to the Raven’s Nest and get lost in the woods of Haycock, there are a couple things to remember. First, they only take cash. Second, smoking is not prohibited. And, third they’re always open 
holidays, snowstorms, you name it. I grew up only a couple miles away and I can tell you there is nothing like getting in the truck, cranking the heat, slowly
making your way down to the Raven’s Nest, walking into a full house, and enjoying a good burger, great beer, and a warm fire.
